The KVPY exam is important as it provides financial assistance to students interested in pursuing a career in science, engineering, and medicine. To be eligible for the KVPY exam, a candidate must be a citizen of India and studying in Class 11, 12, or 1st year of an undergraduate program in science, engineering, or medicine. The candidate must have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in Science and Mathematics subjects in Class 10 or equivalent examination.
The KVPY exam is conducted in two stages: Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 is a computer-based test consisting of multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects. Stage 2 is a written exam, which includes multiple-choice questions and descriptive type questions from the same subjects. The marking scheme for both stages is different. For Stage 1, 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer, and there is no negative marking. For Stage 2, 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer in Part I (multiple-choice questions), while 2 marks are awarded for each correct answer in Part II (descriptive type questions). There is negative marking in Stage 2, with 0.5 marks deducted for each incorrect answer in Part I and 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer in Part II.
